What is Pilates??

Pilates is an exercise system developed by Joseph Pilates in the early part of the 20th century to strengthen muscles, increase flexibility and improve overall health. Exercises are performed on a mat and on specially designed equipment and the system includes exercises for every part of the body and applications for every kind of activity. Pilates focuses on engaging the mind and body together to create exercises that involve the whole person. Every exercise is performed with attention to the breath, proper form and efficient movement patterns. Pilates strengthens the core, improves balance, increases coordination and decreases stress. The exercises are relatively safe, low impact and appropriate for anyone from 10 to 100! This system focuses on learning to move better so the benefits are felt in everyday life.

Mixed Level Reformer

This is a great class for all demographics. It takes place in the studio using the Pilates Reformer. The Reformer is an apparatus that uses spring resistance that can either provide support or resistance during each exercise. The Reformer offers a lot of stability and support and is often the class we prefer new or beginning students to start with. We work at a moderate-intermediate pace and work the whole body in this 55 minute class. You will flow from one movement to the next with options given throughout to modify or advance the exercise to your desired intensity. The engaging variety and flow utilizing all of the Pilates principles will make the class fly by and have you leaving feeling great. The instructor will guide you through the entire class providing cues, modifications, and variations to keep you moving safely. In every class we cue for proper form, safety and ideal alignment to help you create functional movement patterns and progress toward your unique goals. Dynamic stretching and mobility work is how we round out each class to make sure you leave feeling wonderful.

Athletic Reformer

A full body, intermediate/faster paced, 55 minute class utilizing the Reformer and/or whatever equipment the instructor sees fit for the attendees. This class will challenge you and help to push you to the next level of your Pilates practice and toward your unique goals. You will utilize props and experience a variety of exercises with options to modify and advance where needed. We focus on challenging your Pilates principles in new ways and cue you to maintain optimum form and muscles engagement throughout the class. Dynamic stretching and mobility work is how we round out each class to make sure you leave feeling wonderful.
